New Orleans is home to some of the most unique, and fun-loving people on the planet. Throw in a Comic Convention, an opportunity to be anyone or anything you want, and this creates an entire weekend of cosplay; where patrons can attend celebrity panels, participate in unique vendor floor shopping, and the freedom to let their “Nerd Flag” fly.
Wizard World is a convention that hosts events all over the country, but usually falls in the larger cities. Each city features a different guest list, panel selection, and offers professional photo ops and autographs, for a price. The New Orleans Theater (Ballroom) housed the larger panels on Saturday, as well as the Costume Contest later that night.
Thousands of attendees flooded the New Orleans Memorial Convention Center from January 5-7, 2018. The convention featured the one and only Stan Lee, (Marvel Co-Creator, and cameo extraordinaire), David Tennant (Doctor Who, Jessica Jones, Broadchurch), Jason Momoa (Justice League, Game of Thrones), Henry Winkler (Happy Days), Ian Somerhalder (Vampire Diaries), David Mazouz (Gotham), Ruth Connell (Supernatural), Nichelle Nichols (Star Trek), Rider Strong and Will Friedle (Boy Meets World), Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite), Jason David Frank (Power Rangers), Holly Marie Combs (Charmed), Thomas Ian Nicholas (America Pie), and Joe Flanigan (Stargate Atlantis).
Celebrities also had booths set up on the vendor floor, where fans could walk up, interact, and purchase selfies or autographs in a more relaxed atmosphere than the quick professional photo ops. Cosplayers including Redtop Cosplay, Virginia Ann Burton, the Krewe du Who all enjoyed having their photos taken, as well as the The Society of Sin Burlesque & Variety dancers organized by Xena Zeit-Geist. Vendors such as Mirkywood Emporium brought their unique wares (and wooden wands!) to cater to the Harry Potter fan, as well as other fandoms.
