The Barenaked Ladies or also known as BNL, have come a long way since their start in Scarborough, Ontario back in 1988. The band’s sound has evolved from its beginning with the duo of Ed Robertson and Steven Page to what it is today. As members were added to the band roster, their sound changed and matured as well. The current lineup includes Jim Creeggan, Ed Robertson, Kevin Hearn, and Tyler Stewart. But teaming up with the Persuasions takes their sound even further.

The Persuasions, is a cappella group that has been around since the 60’s. Formed in Brooklyn, New York they have a distinct sound all their own. They have recorded with many great names such as Ray Charles, Joni Mitchell and Liza Minnelli to name a few. Teaming up with the Barenaked Ladies just adds another name to their accomplishments.

According to a press release, the album was planted after the two bands, the Barenaked Ladies and the Persuasions, teamed up for a performance in Central Park in 2016. This was during the BNL Last Summer on Earth Tour. The two bands had a great time at the gig that they wanted to continue. Hence an album was born.

The album blends a rich sound of the Persuasion with the distinct voices of the BNL. There isn’t just one singer/band doing all the sounds and the other backing them. The album blends both them. One example of the mixing, is the remake of BNL ‘The Old Apartment’. The song was on the ‘Billboard Hot 100’ back in the 90’s. Instead of the BNL sing the song, the member of the Persuasions covering the tune; it gives the song a fresh sound. The whole album has flare and style, like you would expect from true professionals.

Once you start listening to the first song, you will be listening to it until the end. In a press release, it stated the both bands had a fun time that they agreed to do more. For the sound and feel of the album, it shows up.

This album will be released on April 14, 2017. The 14 track album is produced by Gavin Brown and can be pre-order on Amazon and Itunes.
